VIA CALAGGIORE
The main street, once connecting the Cathedral and the Palazzo dei Trecento, is a popular place to walk in Treviso.
Calmaggiore (Callis Maior, already Cardus Maximus of the Roman Tarvisium), which means "Via Maggiore", is the main street of the historic centre, the one that in the Middle Ages connected the two centres of power: the Cathedral, seat of spiritual power, and the Palazzo dei Trecento, centre of temporal power. Today it is Treviso's favourite place for a walk. The arcades on both sides conceal some interesting frescoes, but above all they host an uninterrupted series of shops that blend in rather well with the buildings above them.
