ARCO DEI GAVI
Large arch of white limestone, built in the early first century by the Roman architect Lucio Vitruvio Cerdone
Along Corso Cavour, this great arch of white limestone was built at the beginning of the 1st century AD by the Roman architect Lucio Vitruvio Cerdone; the author's signature on the monument, a rare phenomenon during the Classical Age, is one of the aspects that made this arch famous. It is a rare example of an arch dedicated to a patrician family from Verona, the Gavia family, whose names of the main members are still visible on its façade. On the pediments there are statues representing members of the Gavi family.
