ARCO DEI GAVI
Large arch of white limestone, built in the early first century by the Roman architect Lucio Vitruvio Cerdone
Along Corso Cavour, this imposing white limestone arch dates back to the early 1st century AD and was built by the architect Lucio Vitruvio Cerdone. The author's signature on the monument, exceptional for its time, has greatly contributed to the arch's renown. Dedicated to the patrician Gavia family, it is a rare example of an arch honoring a private dynasty in Verona. The names of the principal members of this family can be seen on the façade. The pediments feature statues of some of the family members.
