Hotel located in a beautiful historic building in the city center, a few steps from the port, offers rooms with a sober design

This branch of the Radisson Blu is located here in a beautiful historic building in the city centre, just a stone's throw from the port. You enter this former headquarters of the port authorities through heavy marine doors with portholes. The decor of the 90 or so rooms has a sober design and the common areas are embellished with a few modern sculptures and a beautiful, well-kept "period" staircase. You feel at home right away. The breakfast, copious and varied, is taken in the intimacy of the very warm café-restaurant.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for a couple days when we visited Iceland at the end of August. We arrived early to check in and were surprised that we were upgraded on our room and it was ready. The staff at the Radisson Blue were all very helpful with any requests that we had and questions on the city and country. The location is great as it is close to the main square of the city. We unexpectedly had to return to the hotel during our trip traveling across Iceland due to extreme weather. We booked another night at this hotel as we were already familiar with the location and hotel. We were welcomed back that evening with great hospitality from the staff.
The only criticism we would give the hotel is that it was very warm in the evenings in the room. We were aware prior to booking that hotels do not have A/C. Even with the windows open, outside temperature being very cold, and the staff brining in a fan, it was very warm. There were no sheets on the bed only large duvets, which added to the warmness in the rooms.

Overall had a good experience here.

this rating is not a reflection on the people/staff (who are amazing). rather the business itself who feel its ok to falsely advetise and overprice accomodations. the hotel is very dated, needs cleaned, and photos do not represent actual conditions. I had a previous guests belongings in my room, shower to be cleaned, and puddles of water from the windows that dont shut. don't expect to sleep here either on the weekends, there's a nightclub next door and cars drive by blasting club music until 5am. I didn't hear airplanes like other guests did. location is right next to bus stop 3, so maybe that's the price you pay for...unsure.
Beautiful hotel, design and worked. In the city centre, we did everything on foot. Breakfast classic but is a success.
