This museum is dedicated to the works of Jóhannes S Kjarval, the most popular painter in Iceland, born in 1885 and a fisherman in his youth. His colleagues, recognizing his talents, organized a lottery to pay for his art studies abroad. He was inspired by rural Iceland and the island's unique landscapes to create works that are often described as romantic, reflecting the Iceland of the early 20th century. Also a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
