GROTTA
Small windy islet, accessible at low tide, noticed thanks to its lighthouse and its two small colored houses
This small, windy islet is accessible at low tide (times indicated at the start of the passage - closed from May to July), and can be spotted by its lighthouse and two small, colorful houses. From here, you have a fine view of Akranes. Nearby, you'll pass some old fish drying sheds. Keep an eye out for seals sunbathing on the surrounding rocks, and looking south, you can make out the ridges of the Reykjanes relief, including the perfect Keilir cone. Good to know: in winter, the area is a popular spot for watching the northern lights.
