Beautiful shell church, with vaulted back, built between 1958 and 1962 in Kopavogur

Kópavogur is easy to spot thanks to the curious "shell" church that stands at the top of a hill, embellishing the town's coat of arms. This beautiful church, with its vaulted back, rivals Reykjavík's Hallgrimskirkja. It was built between 1958 and 1962. Inside, you'll be amazed by the superb, colorful stained-glass windows adorning the narrow, curved openings. They were designed by Gerdur Helgadóttir (1928-1975), a local architect who worked in France for many years. It's also illuminated at night, and well worth a visit!
