ÖXARÁRFOSS
A beautiful waterfall falling from the high natural wall, with torrents of clear and icy water, plains
When in Þingvellir, don't miss Öxarárfoss, a ten minute walk from the car park following the signs. This beautiful waterfall rises from the high natural wall of Almannagjá, the "gorge of the ancients". The river Öxará flows into Lake Þingvallavatn through a deep pool where, in the Middle Ages, witches and unfaithful women were drowned. Other streams with clear, icy waters flow through the cracks in the plain, such as the Flosagjá ravine, next to Þingvellir church.
