MANNDRÁPSHVER
A famous hot spring called the man killer, with a geothermal site, with marked trails in Hveragerdi
Manndrápshver is a famous hot spring nicknamed the "man killer". In 1906, during a snowstorm on a dark night, three travellers got lost and wandered through these geothermal fields. One of them stumbled and fell through the thin crust of the bubbling spring. As a result of this tragic event, street lighting was installed at Hveragerði, the first in Iceland. Like all geothermal sites in Iceland, follow the marked trails and don't go outside! Even if the place is quite safe, accidents can happen.
