A bare mountain, with a somewhat threatening aspect, with areas of geothermal activity, with narrow valleys and paths
Immediately north of Hveragerði church, towards Reykjafjall, a bare and somewhat threatening-looking mountain, you can see the geothermal activity areas, which are indicated by fumaroles from afar. The Hengill massif is one of the most active geothermal areas in Iceland. In the narrow valleys of the mountain, numerous steam jets rise from the bowels of the earth. These valleys can be reached by one of the many hiking trails, don't miss the 3 km long trail to the hot pots of Reykjadalur.
