INFORMATIONS
Located in Iceland's Suðurland region, the Hvítárnes mountain hut is the oldest mountain hut owned and operated by Ferðafélag Íslands (the Icelandic Tourism Association, FÍ) since 1930. The hut has two floors and can accommodate a total of 30 people. The first floor comprises an entrance hall, two bedrooms with bunk beds and a small kitchen. The attic has a small bedroom and a larger dormitory with mattresses on the floor. The kitchen is equipped with cold running water, a gas stove and a wood-burning stove, as well as a few utensils. The toilet is located in a separate house a little further away, and the janitor's hut is nearby. The campsite is also next to the toilet. The view from the hut is breathtaking. The hut is the starting and finishing point for hikes on the old Kjölur hiking trail. The hut is accessible by jeep (4x4).
