BERGÞÓRSHVOLL FARM
A farmhouse located near Route 1, with the remains of the foundations, still visible on the farm today
It was in this farmhouse near Route 1 that Njáll lived with his wife and children. This is also where the dramatic action of the saga took place, where Njáll, his family and his servants were burned alive in 1011 by an enemy clan. Only Njáll's son-in-law, Kári Sólmundarson, was able to escape the fire. His revenge forms the main theme of the last part of this epic saga. Remains of the foundations can still be seen on the farm now called Línakrar, or the "flax fields".
