The glacier of the valley of the marsh, with crevasses hemmed in by volcanic ash, under which the Kalta volcano lies dormant
The "Marsh Valley Glacier" is a 596 square kilometre ice cap with crevices hemmed in by volcanic ash, under which lies the Katla volcano, the "kettle" which, when it awakens, causes disastrous floods, on average every 40 to 80 years. You can approach one of the glacier tongues that fall from the cap, Sóllheimajökull, easily accessible by the paved road 221 and at the foot of which the guides of Arcanum and Icelandic Mountain Guides are waiting for you.
