This plain between Mýrdalssandur and Kúðafljót, protected from the deadly floods of the Katla by a series of pseudo-craters, the Álftaversgígar, is populated by only about fifty inhabitants. There, the moor begins to reappear and plunges you into an almost deserted landscape. The bus stops at a vague crossroads with no signs. The conical mounds of the pseudo-craters hide the dwellings which must be located in the direction of the sea. But maybe people just live under these mounds, like elves!
