Lava fields, born from a terrible eruption of the Lakagigar, and covered with a thick moss of greenish-grey color.

Even further east on road 1, the Elðraun lava stretches as far as the eye can see. Without a blade of grass and even less a tree, it is quite lunar. These lava fields, born from the terrible eruption of Lakagígar, are covered with a thick greenish-grey moss, a strange vegetation that accentuates the cataclysmic aspect of the site. Although it may be tempting, do not walk on the moss and stay on the marked paths! It is indeed a fragile ecosystem, which would take years to rebuild if you step on it.
