DVERGHAMRAR
A tourist attraction, with a stop at Dverghamrar, with a curious citadel of basalt columns, free access
If you're in the area, make a stop at Dverghamrar, a curious citadel of basalt columns (and take advantage of the - for the moment - free parking nearby). This phenomenon occurs when lava flows into water and suddenly cools. The name of the site (literally "the dwarf's cliffs") comes from the belief that the rocks are inhabited by dwarves or elves. Open to the public and totally free of charge, it's a lovely site that's well worth a stop/retour before exploring the village a little further, particularly its breathtaking waterfalls.
