A former farm site with a small stone and peat church, with a mountain on the sand plains
It is the last settlement before the great barren desert of the Skeiðarársandur. The site has been inhabited since the 12th century. This old farmhouse has a small church made of stone and peat. It was disused in 1765, but re-consecrated in 1961. Due to its success in recent years, the owners have decided to fence off access to the site so that it can only be seen from a distance from Route 1. In the immediate vicinity, Lómagnúpur is a 767 m high mountain on the sandy plains of Skeiðarársandur.
