I am half of the Croatian couple that was volunteering at Mirjam's and Sverir's farm 8 years ago for almost 3 months. We came to volunteer, learn about their way of life and help them with their work. We didn't expect any money, but we received more than enough to cover our expenses. They fed us good, made our stay comfortable and we made extra effort to help as much as we can. Their place is beautiful and rustic, very nicely incorporated in the environment where it's set. The place is very quiet, warm and welcoming. I'm sad to read rude comments as I know that Mirjam and Sverir, along with their kids are pouring their heart and soul into making everything work with the resources they have at the farm. I see that for some people it's hard to understand the amount of work they have to do and that they can't always be available for chit chats with the guests. My husband and I are forever grateful for the love and understanding and new opportunities that we've got after having the honor to volunteer for Mirjam and Sverir.

This place has its own true magic! I can feel again the relaxation in my body and mind and see the beauty of that piece of land and would totally love to go back again in the near future...
Mirjam is an amazing guest and guide! She will share with you beautiful local stories, help you discover Iceland's hidden place and create for you memories for a lifetime!

I stayed at Ytra Lón with my 2 kids (young adults). We enjoyed a trip out to the peninsula, bird watching and exploring what life used to be like here. The views over the sea are beautiful and this place calms and slows you down. The beach is beautiful too.

A magical place in the far north east of Iceland. Worth a detour!

I love this quiet, serene, and wonderful place at the near-end of Iceland. The food is excellent, rooms are clean and inviting, and the location is so peaceful and relaxing. My great-great-grandparents lived at this farm and worked until the mini-Ice Age when they left for North Dakota in the 1880s. It is even more special to me to return but I highly recommend this farm stay to anyone wanting to reconnect with their sanity and stay in a remote location.

I have traveled all over the world and I know how rare it is to feel completely at home, accepted and inspired. Even when you're tired and there's rain, wind and all the other Icelandic magic. Ytra Lón Farm & Retreat is such a place.

My business friends and I reached Ytra Lón Farm & Retreat after a very long (and epic) road trip.

We actually wanted to use the time with Mirjam to have a couple of days of intensive business masterminding. But the energy with and around Mirjam and the nature is so powerful that we only needed a couple of hours. We figured out 6 business solutions in just hours! It was very impactful.

I can't wait to come back and write a new book, or just sit and enjoy being alive.

The flat is old. The floor is sagging. The fridge does not open more than halfway. There is no private pool but only a small hotpot near the reception shared with everyone. The place is isolated from everything and everyone, far even from the small village which fortunately has a small market. I don't recommend the route to get there unless you have a 4X4. Beware of the Google map route that might take you through the mountains with a 14% gradient (F917).

The guesthouse is made from used containers, the rooms are basically 2 containers combined together. As it is not a built house, you can understand that the walls will trespass the noise of the other people around, as all the containers are just aligned one with another.
The restaurant is serving fish and lamb, which lamb sometimes happened to be cooked from days before and the owners would just reheat it in microwave and serve it overpriced for 5.900 isk .
Also, these people didn't pay me a legal salary. They are running the place either on volunteers or illegally underpaid workers.
Based on my insightful experience from working there, I would recommend to stay away from this place and the owners of it, Mirjam and Sverir.
