JÓKULSÁ
A national park that starts in the south, at Dettifoss, with the second largest river in Iceland at Asbyrgi
With a length of 206 km, the Jökulsá at Fjollum is the second largest river in Iceland. Its brown waters meander through vertiginous basalt gorges. The national park begins in the south, at Dettifoss, along the Jökulsá Gorge, which is the longest and most impressive gorge in Iceland. Stretching for 25 km, they are up to 500 m wide and over 100 m deep in places. The upper canyon, from Dettifoss to Syðra-Þórunnarfjall, is the deepest (up to 120 m) and the most grandiose, a wonder to behold.
