The starting point for multiple hikes in Asbyrgi, a labyrinth of twisted basalt columns
Vesturdalur is the starting point for many hikes. The two most famous stages are Hljóðaklettar (2.4 km, 1 hour, all levels) and Rauðhólar (5 km, 2 hours, for sportsmen). Hljóðaklettar is a labyrinth of twisted basalt columns. Give a shout to understand why they are called the "echo rocks"... You can extend the walk to Rauðhólar ("red hills") where you will find a sumptuous promontory of red and black ashes. The walk ends, as does the national park, at Ásbyrgi.
