Iceland's largest cold desert, composed of lava fields and volcanic sand, the largest lava field in the world

The F88 track gradually penetrates Ódáðahraun, Iceland's largest cold desert (4,400 ^km2) of lava fields and volcanic sand, and the world's largest lava field. Its name means "criminals' lava desert", and legend has it that it was a favored place of refuge for outcasts, although few survived the hostile conditions. Don't miss a stop at the Herdubreidarlindir oasis at the foot of the Herðubreið volcano.
