ÞJÓRSÁRVER
The most important breeding area for pink-footed geese is located in Sprengisandur
These marshes, which give rise to the Þjórsá, Iceland's longest river (230 km), are home to numerous birds and a varied fauna. Listed as a RAMSAR site since 1990, it is the most important breeding area for pink-footed geese. Particularly isolated by their location in the "middle lands" and far from any human civilization, they can be reached on foot, but the hike is not recommended for beginners. You'll need to be able to survive here in total autonomy, which is not for everyone.
