NOTRE DAME CHURCH
This church features an austere nave contrasting with a flamboyant Gothic choir.
The beautiful church of Notre-Dame de Vire is a sturdy edifice of local granite, built between the 13th and 16th centuries on the site of a former Romanesque chapel. Its austere nave contrasts with a flamboyantly sculpted Gothic choir, attributed to the same master builder as the Wonder of Mont-Saint-Michel. Plundered during the Wars of Religion and the Revolution, and devastated by Allied bombing raids in July 1944, Notre-Dame was completely restored between 1948 and 1957.
