If you are interested in high quality Cidre, or beverages in general, do not miss! This is a prime opportunity to discover what you can make out of apples, on pair with fine wines. This has nothing to do with the usual Cidre you get at every corner. I don't think there is any better "apple wine" on the market, anywhere, in any country. There is a richness and complexity in these Cidres that is unparallelled. Not always easy and pleasing, just like a fine wine is not accessible in casual drinking. A drink to be savoured, not quaffed. This, of course, is reflected in the price tag (and justly so!).
Coming to Herout, you will first notice the absence of usual advertising or visitor-oriented infrastructure. Park wherever there is space (and where you're not in the way), and find the entrance to the really small shop. Shortly someone, who has apparently interrupted work with the apples, will come and present the products - Cidre, Calvados, Pommeau, that's it. This is not a gift shop.
At Herout, there is a strong commitment to quality. You can feel that this is passion, not just a job. Working on producing the best Cidre possible, to be proud of the product, not to please a mass market.
I am honoured to have discovered Herout, to have tasted their products, to have a selection of their bottles in my cellar for special occasions. Herout is a reason to plan another Normandie vacation sooner than originally intended. A true Michellin Three Star venue: not just worth a stop, not just worth a detour, but worth a trip.
Thank you!
Et, oui le cidre s'accompagne bien avec des huîtres.
