THE OLD CHURCH
Church dedicated to the saint and a cross-vaulted chapel in Barneville-Carteret.
Saint Germain le Scot evangelised the Cotentin in the5th century. On a listed site, untouched by any construction, between the cape and the dunes, you can see what remains of the church dedicated to the saint: part of the nave and the choir (12th century) as well as a vaulted chapel with a ribbed crossing. The threat of the sea and time led to the abandonment of the church in the first half of the 17th century. The remaining stones were then used to enlarge the Saint-Louis chapel. These ruins are an amazing stop on the way to the beach.
