SCULPTURE B17
Sculpture on the roadside between Valognes and Bricquebec, depicting a plane with its wing torn off.
A few weeks before D-Day, two American planes were shot down within a few days of each other: the first, on April 27, crashed at Rocheville, killing 10 soldiers, and the second, on May 8, at Bricquebec, taking the lives of its 11 occupants. These episodes, which many had forgotten, so many tragic episodes followed one another during those decisive months for our freedom, came back into memory with the erection of this sculpture. Representing a plane with its wing torn off, the site is located at the edge of the road linking Valognes and Bricquebec.
