ST. VICTOR'S BENEDICTINE ABBEY
Majestic abbey on three floors of windows in Cerisy-la-Forêt, housing a remarkable chapel in pure Gothic style.
Pearl of the Romanesque art, this magnificent abbey was founded in 1032 by Robert the Magnificent, father of William the Conqueror. It is dedicated to Saint Vigor. The apse was completed in 1110. With its three floors of windows, it is a unique example in Lower Normandy. The abbot’s chapel, built in 1260 in pure Gothic style, is remarkable. This abbey unfortunately had to undergo many destructions and declined little by little, before heavy restoration works.
