LE VÉRITABLE CHERBOURG
Le Véritable Cherbourg is a brand of umbrellas "made in Cotentin". Since its creation in 1986, the manufactory has extended its range of models, for men and women, designed on-site and handmade with noble materials, exceptional fabrics, and wooden handles bearing the brand’s coat of arms.
The story. Born into a family of leather manufacturers from father to son since 1800 in Cherbourg, Jean-Pierre Yvon, a photographer in Paris and around the world, returned to his "land of secret gardens", the Cotentin, to create his own company in 1981 and register the brand "Le Véritable Cherbourg" in 1986. A tribute to Jacques Demy for his film "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg", the golden palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964. A tribute to his hometown, this Cherbourger has only one objective: to share ethics, spirit, know-how, and image with the brand and his umbrella. Very quickly, he acquired a tailor-made factory to satisfy his creative needs and controlled quality. Jobs are being created, and staff trained for excellence. Success was not long in coming: the public’s recognition gave the brand the title of reference: for the weather resistance of "True Cherbourg", the beauty of the curve, the materials used, the sizes matching each one.
Jean-Pierre Yvon decided to look for a new venue that would allow him to present the consortium of manufacturers, shops, exhibitions, and conferences in a single building. Precisely the "Banque de France" of Cherbourg is for sale! Accompanied by his son Charles, Jean-Pierre Yvon then decided to buy it! The sumptuous building anchored on the quay located in the heart of the golden triangle of art, culture, commerce, and the port ensures the development and continuity of the brand... And it was Charles who brilliantly took over!
The products. Quality has a price, but it ensures the reputation of this French brand in France and abroad. The brand also creates models for major events such as the "50th Cannes Film Festival", the "50th D-Day Landings", the "60th and 70th, the "Year 2000" in Silk Jacquard, the collector of the "Titanic", Arts and Elegance Richard Mille, Château de Chantilly and also custom-made models for luxury brands (Moët et Chandon, Cartier, Louis Roederer, Baccarat, Van Cleef and Arpels, Krug, etc.).
Employment. Today, 20% of the turnover is exported.
