CHURCH OF HAINNEVILLE
Church featuring a large wooden crucifix, a marble reproduction of the Last Supper, stained glass from the Mauméjean workshop...
Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church is a Catholic building located in the commune of Équeurdreville-Hainneville, in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. It is part of the Sainte-Marie-du-Cotentin parish. The history of this church dates back to the 11th century, but construction of the current building began in the 19th century to accommodate the growing population. Work was spread over several years, with the choir and sacristy completed in 1852, the transept and chapels in 1860, and the nave and bell tower in 1865. However, the bell tower spire was never built. In 1967, the interior of the choir was refurbished. The church’s interior features a large 18th-century wooden crucifix, a marble reproduction of the Last Supper, a 19th-century marble baptismal font and stained-glass windows by the Mauméjean workshop. Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church is located in the triangle formed by rue de la République, rue de Belgique and rue de la Cité, on the edge of chemin du Tot.
