Museum allowing visitors to discover the daily life of the civilians of Cherbourg and its surroundings.
Located on the Montagne du Roule, at 117 m altitude, this museum is housed in a former fort of the Second Empire, occupied by the German army during the Second World War. Its recapture by Allied troops on 25 June 1944 is one of the symbols of the liberation of Cherbourg. The tour offers the scenography from the invasion to the reconstruction. It is well done, and one becomes aware of the decisive role of the city in the liberation of Europe. Finally, the view is breathtaking: the whole city, but also the entire roadstead.
