The first section of the tramway line, linking the communes of Hussein Dey and Bordj El Kiffan, was inaugurated in 2011. It was extended in 2015 to Dergana, to the east of the city. Today, it's the one and only tramway line in Algiers, with 38 stations spread over just over 23 km. Trains run every day, even on public holidays, at an average interval of 8 minutes (6 minutes at peak times). Extensions are planned to extend the line 4 km to the west, towards Harraoua and Aïn Taya.
