ANTIQUE THEATER
Theater located below the plateau, built in the century AD and housing stones removed in the century.
The theater is located below the plateau that supports thecavea. Little remains of the cavea, whose stones were removed in the mid-19th century for the construction of French military buildings. The theater was built in the 1st century A.D., probably during the reign of Claudius, but underwent major modifications in the 2nd and 3rd centuries when the trend towards games supplanted interest in the dramatic arts. The orchestra and front rows were then converted into an arena for gladiatorial combat.
