DOMAINE SKIABLE D'AVORIAZ
Inaugurated in 1966, Avoriaz is an innovative sports resort with a focus on skiing, families and children, who have their own village in the center of the resort. A ski area at the heart of the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil domain. Avoriaz is at the center of a vast ski area linked to Super Morzine, Châtel (from Les Lindarets) and Champéry in Switzerland (via Mossette). It includes 51 slopes, 4 snowparks and 4 snowcrosses (ungroomed runs) and enjoys exceptional snow cover from December to April. Avoriaz prides itself on being a paradise for natural family skiing on its wide valleys, and for new snow sports with trails through the fir trees. The Stash (created by snowboarder Jake Burton in 2008) is Europe's first 100% natural snowpark, where free ride and freestyle can be found side by side in the same space. A must-see! Cross-country skiing is also available on 23 km of marked trails through plateaus and coniferous and spruce forests. For non-skiers (or for those wishing to diversify their interests), off-piste activities range from snowshoeing (or walking), dog-sledding or horse-drawn carriages, snow scooters and even mountain biking on snow... to paragliding, tobogganing, ski-joëring (pulled by a carriage), speed riding (paragliding skiing) and even heliskiing and skydiving!
