BONANZA MINE TRAIL
Hiking trail with views of the Kennecott Valley suggesting a fairly steep excursion
The Bonanza Mine Trail is a fairly strenuous hike that begins on the Root Glacier trail (signage is easy to find). Allow 5 to 7 hours for this fairly steep hike that climbs above the canopy with views of the Kennicott and Chitina valleys. It is 15 km long and reaches an altitude of 1,820 meters. It begins with a chaos of stones then counts a difficult ascent on ground, which slips in certain places. To reach the top, you have to hang on to the cable of the old cable car! Incredible view.
