ROOT GLACIER TRAIL
4-mile Root Glacier Trail with a hiking trail over the valley covered by a long moraine of snow and gravel
From Kennicott Glacier Lodge, a hiking trail, the Root Glacier Trail, of 4 miles (6.5 km or 13 km round trip) allows you to see most of the buildings and also passes at the foot of Kennicott Glacier where the valley is covered by a long moraine of snow and gravel. It is considered, like its neighbor the Bonanza Mine Trail, to be a fairly difficult hiking trail for its route, but quite short as it only takes 2 1/2 hours to complete. Take crampons, which are mandatory for your safety on the glacier.
