Remains of the medieval fortified castle of the XIIIth century which played an important role in the history of the region. The Dukes of Normandy chose Gavray as the seat of a viscounty and built a military castle there. It is known that in 1091, Henri, third son of William the Conqueror, in struggle against his two brothers, fortified Gavray. He played an important role during the Hundred Years' War when he was besieged twice by French troops. It was known to have a captain until the end of the 16th century, when it was dismantled and used for material.
