To get an overview of what to do and where to go around Ninilchik, the best place to start is the Village Cache Gift Shop. It is housed in a house built in the 19th century. An urgent restoration was done in 1984. Free pamphlets are available inside and indicate different routes of visit. You can also view and purchase handicrafts, especially carved elk antlers, and fossilized walrus tusks, a material unique to Alaska.
