HOMER SPIT
Wide sandy strip of 4.5 miles in the sea with a harbor, considered the main attraction of Homer
Homer's main attraction, this wide strip of land and sand stretches for 4.5 miles (7.2 km), sinks into the bay and houses the harbor. It is the longest spit of land in the sea known in the world of its type. You can reach its end in 10 to 15 minutes by car. It is only a fragile strip that was greatly reduced during the 1964 earthquake, but it still offers, as a natural pier, a splendid view of the icy mountains, volcanic cones and surrounding forests from the terraces of the cafes that border it.
