Friendly hotel staff and tour guides.
We had a very pleasant stay and can recommend 100%
First what can be improved:
- please provide a 2nd waffle iron for breakfast
- Sauna situation: please improve the sauna availabilities. At best build an additional hut with 2 saunas with different heat levels where every guest can go in (even if the usage costs extra per guest). Sauna is an essential part of the Finnish experience and 1 private sauna does not do it justice. Also walking half naked back to the reception is not ideal
- if an experience is booked, which includes thermo suits, then these suits should remain with the guest as long as they want for the stay
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Wilderness Inari!
The food was great, the staff was super helpful and patient, explaining the surroundings and how to get around or to the village, etc. - especially Victoria and Ferenc, thanks!
Booking a few nights in the aurora cabin was definitely worth it and one of our highlights.
The northern lights were also amazing, of course!
We did a selection of activities, e.g. Husky Safari, Aurora Camp, Siida Museum, Sunset Walk to the hanging bridge (Juutua Trail),…
We would definitely recommend the wilderness hotel. Thank you for this amazing holiday!
Sehr gute Suppe, tolles Vorspeisenbuffet, jedoch keine vegetarische Option beim Hauptgang und günstiges Dessert. Öffentliche Räume im Haupthaus waren sehr schön gestaltet.
The facilities at the resort are really good - rooms, dining area, activity planning, etc.
The location is a dream, by the side of the frozen lake (Finland’s 3rd biggest lake ). It gives you open spaces to view the Aurora.
The guides for our activities were excellent - they take a lot of care and give us time to learn new skills. They also share a lot of information about the area, culture, history, etc.
I would recommend snowmobiling and reindeer farm visit. Cross country skiing is a lot of fun but also has a high risk of injuries, so be cautious.
My only observations for improvement (or minor complaint) are
1. The tours and transfer state that the cost is for 3-4 people groups. Our transfer was by bus along with 7 other couples. Aurora hunt by car was stated as 3-4 people and we were 7. So you get the feeling of being over charged.
2. The food spread across all meals is quite repetitive - especially the breakfast (almost the same everyday).
Note: if you have booked 2-3 activities on several days, don’t book winter overall with the room. You will anyway get the overalls for the activities.
The new build chalets are well put together, with their own sauna offering a lovely space to chill out in privacy. They are rather packed in and you are unlikely to have a view to the lake. A bit more though could have gone into how the bathrooms are used ref towel hanging and the like.
The log cabins are excellent , but you need to book early, especially if you want the view.
The restaurant is always packed reflecting the recently expanded accommodation offer.
The public space with the fire and cosy atmosphere is a great space to chill after the days activities.
The Swamp bog cocktail is a fun concoction based on Cloudberry whisky and ginger - definitely worth a try.
The 5 Wilderness Hotels in and around Inari are a mature offering - they know what their customers want and are focussed on meeting or exceeding expectations.
The chalets are very cozy. You can stay in and watching outdoors through big glass windows. Recommend people to stay a few days here.
