MONT D'HUISNES MAUSOLEUM
The mausoleum contains 11,956 bodies of German soldiers, a poignant and unique site in France, near Mont-Saint-Michel.
Inaugurated in 1963, this mausoleum brings together 11,956 bodies of German soldiers who fell in the Second World War. They come from many different battlefields. The atmosphere of the place is particularly poignant. In the 68 crypts spread over two floors, the names of the victims are engraved on bronze plaques. Sometimes, only "Ein deutscher Soldat" (a German soldier) is engraved. This is the only German ossuary in France, located 5 kilometers from Mont-Saint-Michel.
