This religious festival in Bruges celebrates the relic brought back by Thierry d'Alsace from the Holy Land.
This procession, which takes place in Bruges on Ascension Day, attracts tens of thousands of spectators every year. The parade features tableaux vivants from the Old and New Testaments, a procession of medieval tradesmen and, finally, Thierry d'Alsace bringing back the Holy Blood vial from the Holy Land during his second crusade in the 13th century. The museum of the Basilica of the Holy Blood, built in the 15th century, displays the famous shrine that is said to have contained the trickle of Jesus' hemoglobin collected in the Holy Grail.
