MAISON D'OCTROI
The octroi house in 1477 all in white and grey stone, with coat of arms above the door, installed in Bruges.
When ships were still arriving in Bruges, it was on the Sint-Jansbrug bridge that tolls were collected on goods entering the city. This lucrative business enabled Pierre de Luxembourg, who was in charge of the toll, to rebuild this toll house in 1477, all in white and grey stone. His coat of arms can still be seen above the door. The Tolhuis has been closed since the Province of West Flanders moved its offices to the Provinciaal Hof on the Markt.
