TORTURE MUSEUM
The Torture Museum, housed in a former prison, displays some of the instruments used to "interrogate" prisoners.
Once you've climbed the stairs, you're in for a real treat. The "Oude Steen" (Old Stone) Torture Museum is housed in one of Europe's oldest prisons, with part of the walls dating back to the 11th century. The controversial legal system on display in the museum dates from the period between the 12th and 18th centuries. Some of the instruments were actually used, but each of them demonstrates a certain folly in the measures executed by the justice system of the time. Fortunately, a sweet treat is offered at the end of the visit!
