Place is a staple on the West Side for a reason. A+ experience and our mains haven’t come out yet.

Rib eye and duck were phenomenal

Terrific dining experience all around! We loved everything about our meal. Great vibe in the dining room. The chicken wing appetizer was delicious and the Chefs infused vinegar really does add another dimension to all of the dishes. We shared the ribeye steak, the charred cabbage and the mushrooms. They all complimented each other well and with the three steak sauces every bite was a new flavor party.

I recently visited the Sunset location, only to discover that it had closed down. I was truly saddened because I had fallen in love with the duck dish they served there. The last time I visited and had such an amazing and delightful experience turned out to be their final night of operation. It left me feeling quite upset.

However, I received some fantastic news that Charcoal had an original location in Venice. I was thrilled and immediately called to make reservations. When I inquired about it being the same restaurant, the hostess confirmed it was.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a lovely hostess and taken through the kitchen to the outdoor patio seating area. After being seated, we were ready to place our orders shortly after.

Once our orders were taken, we requested the waitress to decant our wine. She seemed a bit forgetful or possibly overwhelmed. After taking our order, she returned to the kitchen and then came out to take orders from other tables. I had to get her attention again to kindly ask her to open the bottle of wine.

Shortly thereafter, the first course of seven dishes was served. The tuna tartare was refreshing and set the stage for what promised to be an incredible culinary experience. The second and third courses followed, leading up to the highlight of the evening - the amazing 21-day dry-aged duck. This duck dish was the most memorable item I had at Charcoal.

Upon being served, the duck appeared different to me compared to the one I had at the Sunset location. While the taste was similar, it seemed like it had been overcooked and left under a heat lamp. We ordered two portions of the duck so that everyone in our group could enjoy it. I will illustrate the differences in the photos.

As we reached the final course, the dry-aged ribeye steak, we found it to be unusually fatty. Despite requesting it to be cooked medium-rare plus, it was served rare.

After considering our experience and the service provided, I would rate this restaurant a solid 4 stars. The restaurant was bustling both inside and outside, but it was evident that they were understaffed. Despite this, we had a wonderful time with our waitress, especially while discussing our wine choices.

I particularly appreciated that the waitress brought our orders in the requested courses, and the overall experience did not feel rushed.

Really incredible. Not inexpensive. But you're getting farm-traced, naturally raised duck, pork, chicken, prime grade cuts of beef. Sides are inventive made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The shaved baby gem lettuce with charred scallion vinaigrette was just one of the great examples of really great sides. We will be back again

You guys really charged someone 12$ for a orange? Sure it was reasonable they were charged for eating the orange but 12$ and saying your on a citrus shortage? I think that’s just a scam to get more money

Very impressed with the food overall. We had the Ribeye Steak, the Loup de Mer, the Grilled Calamari and the Caeser Salad. Everything was pretty good except the Caeser salad which we didn't like. The service was also pretty good.

Food tasted great. Too bad both steaks and vegetable we ordered were served to us after 25 minutes of waiting, was lukewarm.

This place rocks, even though my stomach would disagree with that statement today (I was there last night). Only bc I was dealing with a bit of a stomach flu, not bc Charcoal's happy hour dishes caused the uproar. A must visit eatery! Go for it!

Great food. Fun to share large plates with a bunch of people.

The skirt steak and lamb ribs are ridiculously good. The service could have been better (a couple drink mixups; food took a while to come out; my friend burned his finger on the oyster plate after not being warned it was hot; inattentive toward the end of the meal) but still 5 stars due to food quality. Other highlights include steak fries (better than the baked potato), and the chocolate peanut butter cake which is some of the best cake I've ever had.

Saw a video and they made a guy pay 9 dollars for an orange even though they were sitting there like peanuts never been there wish 0 stars was a option

Did this restaurant really charge a person $12 for an orange that they ate because they took one without knowing for sure if it was for guest or not?

Love this place been coming here for years. They can have a piece of my pie anytime. The experience here is always worth the money.

Missed the mark for me. Service at the bar is never particularly friendly. Been here a few times to make sure it wasn’t me. Took forever just to be greeted. Food is good but without good service, it lacks ambiance

Outstanding place. Best duck I’ve ever had.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time… everything was off the charts! You can’t go wrong with any dish, and the servers are incredibly knowledgeable in their recommendations, but if nothing else - get the lamb riblets, roasted cabbage, aged bone-in rib eye and the ricotta carrots. The restaurant inside is very trendy and the patio feels like you’re in your own backyard. The service was exceptional and all around created a wonderful dining experience I didn’t want to end!

We went to Charcoal Venice not sure what to expect. But our waiter Alex was perfect to explain the preparation of their different dishes, the quantity we should order and what we should not miss (the duck was amazing). The four of us had 3 dishes, one side and a salad. The food was remarkable, well presented and easy to share. Overall a great place for your buck.
