71Above is second to none. The greatest view in Los Angeles, the most professionally-prepared and exquisite-tasting food in Los Angeles (year-round, menu changes slightly every season if the year), and the only thing better than the food is the service by a warm, professional, knowledgeable, and attentive staff.

The portions are rich taste and in aesthetic value, bountiful and captivating in flavor and presentation, and are a good size and not disappointing like other high-end restaurants where you're served foam on half a pea and a grape stem on the left of the plate only to be charged $400 for "the chef's vision" (boo) that in reality are neither aesthetically pleasing nor does it stimulate any part of the palate in any memorable way. Yes, restaurant on Melrose, you know who you are and the others, too. 71Above is NOT that kind of place and is, indeed, a beautiful and fulfilling dining experience. Have dined there many times and is our go-to.

71Above is one of the only restaurants that serves *actual* and true A5 Wagyu prepared by truly professional chefs that understand the care and attention-to-detail this cut merits.

Also home of the best Old-fashioned (called The Downtown here).

This is a MUST experience. Make reservations in advance. Local or tourist, it is simply 'cannot miss'. New York has Le Bernadine, LA has 71Above. Best in LA.

Wonderful experience, had the course dinner. Everything was perfect.

The management here is terribly rude. Not worth your money. There are so many better places in Los Angeles. People are not treated equally here - I bet a lot of their positive reviews are given by people who were the recipients of preferential treatment.

Food was horrible!! they put gravy on steak !!
The dessert was awful as well , basically you pay for the view and nothing else , however they do not guarantee the window seats either , we booked a window seat and they didn’t provided it to us , first and last time for me to go there ! If you listen to me , don’t waste your money there !!

I was upset... I had dinner my sister and her husband for my sisters birthday and I was surprised at how rude the girl bartender was. They were trying to take photos and the bartended kept intentionally getting in her photos. Not only that, she was laughing and telling her co worker that she was doing it on purpose!! - HOW RUDE!? Why would you try to sabotage someone's experience at a restaurant with a view? How unprofessional.. why do you work there ? it was clear there was an issue because someone else had to come make their drinks...
We were gifted with a photo we received at dinner and left it behind by mistake, I called that night and they don't answer their phones, you have to email them. I called and emailed the next day and was told they did not have my art work. So they tossed it out? they didn't even give me a chance to come back and get my gift. So, what is the policy on lost and found because we never took it from the restaurant. I was very disappointed in the food taste as well.. $100 pre course meal but I think they could have made put more effort in to the entree's. you basically pay for the view but the workers like the try and ruin that for you.. so be mindful when booking here.. my server was great. guy from Boston (i think) but we he never came back to our table at the end of the night. never dismissed himself so we didn't say bye.. idk i expected more.

The view is amazing! This is the best view in Los Angeles! This place is worth it just for the view alone! We went for a birthday celebration and the service was great! The food was good, not great in my opinion. But you don’t really come here for the food. I ordered the crudo, ribeye, and mouse. They were all okay. My wife ordered the octopus appetizer which was better than mine! Her pork loin was okay. And she loved her shaved ice dessert. I would definitely recommend this place!

We originally had reservations for Friday 3/15 but Murphy came to visit us Friday and I had to call the restaurant en route to change the reservation. The reservation graciously did to Saturday at the same time. We arrived before the Restaurant opened on Saturday and had the opportunity to walk around. There is a staircase fountain and the Central LA library was across the street. A local serenaded us with a song and wished us a good evening. We rode an elevator to 54th floor and then another one to the 71st. There is plenty of security, you will not get lost! We got a table by a window. Hubby disappeared to take pictures. Server told me, were used to people doing this and it’s okay. Hubby reappeared and we ordered our 3 course meals with a caviar and Wagyu supplements .Bread service, a glass of wine, bottle of still water, cocktail, and a pot of tea. If you have food allergies, the restaurant will work with you (much rejoicing). Our Server Jazmin was responsive. My husband ordered a first course that turned out to be too spicy for his palate. He was allowed to order a different appetizer. We will be back hopefully with friends.

They do prix fixe style 3 course menu here, with many choices for each course. Also offered is a set price wine pairing. I really enjoyed all the dishes I chose as well as the pairings (1 for each course). They do have a full bar available but I only had the paired wines.

An amuse-bouche was brought to us ahead of our meal. It was a mushroom and scallion broth in a crockery type shot glass. This was a little salty but delicious.

I chose a prawns (no picture) as my first course. It came with 3 lovely prawns and a cabbage puree. For my second I chose a bacon wrapped pork loin (see picture), and lastly the almond cake (see picture). All 3 dishes were fantastic. I went with my wife and son who both also loved the food. Its clear the change the menu options frequently. The 3 course menu was $98 each and the wine pairings $56 each.

Bread service is an additional charge but it was delicious.

Please note 18% gratuity is automatically added to your check.
Our dinner for 3 with wine pairings for two, tax and gratuity all in was $557.

I definitely want to come back, but to me this is a venue for a special occasion dinner.

They do offer corkage if you want to bring in your own bottle but that is $50!

As for seating, we ended up sitting at a booth the faced the kitchen. While this is fascinating this is a 71st floor restaurant so we would have preferred to face the windows. If you are a Hell's Kitchen fan you might dig this table (and you can request it), but you will not see any drama.... just professionalism and attention to detail. We could have waited for a different table but chose to stay put.

Fantastic view and amazing food. I don't necessarily recommend the wagyu though, because of the upcharge, and while good wasn't 200 dollars good. Everything else my mother and I had at this restaurant was absolutely top notch. For that 5 star experience and view it's pretty affordable as well.

When you go to a place that depends on a view for atmosphere, a foggy rain curtain can certainly create a cafeteria atmosphere. Nevertheless the food was good, especially the first course--gnudi for me and octopus for her. Memorable. I'd avoid the beef "second": grisly. The pairings varied with the first course being perfect. All three courses were substantial. Service was just OK, plus it took some getting used to to being called "my friend" all evening. Be aware 18% is added to all tickets.
