Coffee infused with cinnamon: that's the morning aroma of Monte Alban, which seems to come straight from Oaxaca, Mexico. The specialties of this southern Mexican city are prepared with care. Special mention must be made of the mole negro - a sauce made from many ingredients - and the enfrijoladas, a colorful blend of beans, chicken and typical Mexican sauce - available in a choice of black, yellow, green or red. And don't miss the homemade guacamole, ideal for whetting your appetite.

We had such a beautiful meal here. My husband and I, son and 2 year old moved into the area not too long ago and decided to give this place a try after a few friends of ours recommended we go. We’ve been to quite a few noted Mexican restaurants within LA but this gem is such a great, modest, authentic little place. The staff there were so friendly. We were Served by the lovely and very attentive Gena, who presented us with a fantastic mixed starter plate which had (our fav) pork crackling… omg???????? and an array of very tasty delights. This was followed by three delicious main courses. The very tender chicken breast mole was to die for … that sauce is stunning !!! The Oaxacan pizza is on a large delicious thin crispy tortilla base and a great sharing main.We also halved the burrito a La Oaxaqueña bañado con mole which was delicious and very filling. Our little one had some chicken broth with chicken and rice which was a great little soup for her albeit she LOVED the home made jello which was more appealing ???? Everything was explained so well by Gena as we ordered and were given our food. We also ordered a couple of the margaritas…. Oh yes !!!! They were sooooooo good!!!! We ended the meal with some takeaway sticky Mexican treats that were also very tasty. Surprisingly, the sugar squash …. Note: very sweet so if u have sweet tooth or need a sugar hit , was a yummy and interesting choice.
Thoroughly recommended and we will most definitely be back. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall it was good full of flavor. Chips and salsa was fresh. The tlayuda mixto was delicious. The chorizo torta was also very good. The pozole however was lacking, the broth was extremely water downed, no flavor at all. Easy way to tell was the homeny was small and not soft, the meat bland, trying to cook quickly which is not something you can do with pozole. Easily the worst pozole I ever had. Overall food tends to be very good, we have visited few times, just this time pozole was a HUGE miss.

Brilliantly fresh food with an excellent array of flavors including five different moles. Tina, the warm and efficient waitress invited us to saMple a few moles. Their deep rich black mole. Is. Astonishing. And you can get any mole served as a sauce on a. “wet” burrito (as big as a midget submarine.”
