Opened in 2000 by local residents, The Kitchen reflects the diversity and energy of Silver Lake. The goal: to make guests feel at home, with fresh, homemade comfort food . The focus is on sandwiches, from burgers to grilled cheese and classic breads. Don't miss the meatloaf sandwich, an American specialty. Other dishes on the menu include fried chicken, mussels and French fries, and fish and chips. A particularly warm welcome.

The place wasn't busy when we arrived but there was only one server, that I could see. There was the busser and what I thought to be the manager.
We were brought water to the table but it did take a while to have the server come to us for a drink order. We ordered all at once.
I ordered Steak & Eggs -- Flank steak and fried eggs, served w/ garlic mashed potatoes. I found the potato choice odd. I should have asked for regular potatoes but I wanted to be adventurous.
If you follow my reviews then you'll know that I like a hot salsa. The bottle on the table didn't have a label but I think it was Cholula. I would have preferred a nice salsa to go over the eggs.
The steak was delicious, cooked just right. The eggs were good as well as the mashed potatoes, they still didn't go but they were good.
I don't think I'd go back. It was a nice lunch, the conversation was great, but this Kitchen was not welcoming to me.
