I went last week again. I always order the Sand Dabs and baked potato. Usually they just melt in your mouth but this time they were really chewy and not very good.
When I asked for the check I told my waiter Chris
That the Sand Dabs were not very good and please pass my comments on to the Chef.
I did not ask for anything.
Chris came back to me and asked me if I would like a dessert on the house. I said yes. I would like the Creme Brulee . I've had it many times before and it is the best ever.
Needless to say I was very happy with Chris and his generous offer.
I will of course go back again and order the same thing again. The Sand Dabs.
Was taken to the table, and greeted by the waiter, ordered the Baked Escargot appetizer, when they arrived, informed him that we were in no hurry to order dinner.
After enjoying the Escargot, we ordered dinner. I had the Scallops and a baked potato, my bride only wanted the French Onion soup, ( she don't eat much....LOL)
Everything was delicious, She raved it was the best French Onion soup she has had.
I can't think of changing anything. The ambiance, the atmosphere, and a very attentive waiter. Our next time in LA, this is a place we will be back to.
Great place to dine.
For food we got:
- Mussel’s special salad. Romaine and avocado in a creamy dressing. Delicious yet light.
- hubby got sand dab and loved it. Very flavorful I wish portion was a bit bigger
- I got ribeye cap as many reviews recommended. Did not disappoint! Was so tender and juicy. Love the jus too.
- Alfredo. They were so kind and split in two without us even asking. I gotta say I understand this is a classic and cult favorite but I guess just not for me. Still good but I wouldn’t order it again as I enjoyed the other entrees much more.
- New York cheese cake for dessert. This was the highlight of the night!! Our server said best NY cheesecake on the west coast and I was skeptical! But he was right!! It was so creamy and cheesy. Not overly sweet. I almost ate the whole thing by myself!
Drinks: I gotta try the classic dirty martini and hubby old fashioned. Both were great and the martini came with a mini carafe with extra for refill later so cute!
After the pandemic, the quality of service, food, and excellence verses price has gone down on everything that I know and love in Los Angeles (and, well, everywhere else too). Musso & Frank is the one exception to this rule. They are a wonderful place to experience a great meal and enjoy great service and great cocktails. And the value is still there. They charge a very reasonable price considering the quality of what you get *and* the legendary service you receive. Highly recommended!
PS: while the filet mignon is as good as the best of the best in the world—and I mean it, the whole world—if you want to split something get the prime rib. At 18oz and with a huge baked potato, you can *easily* share it with another person and even have leftovers. Once again, highly recommended
Great food and drinks
Outstanding service.
The service this time was absolutely outstanding, compared to a domineering, know-it-all server from our last visit.
A bit of back story: I’ve never complained to a manager about a member of their wait staff before but this fellow was so beyond the pale I felt management should know. My brother says he never saw that waiter again.
This illustrates just how much Musso’s cares about the quality of their service.
