This small hotel combines convenience, ideal location and comfort for an affordable price. The exterior and the public areas of the hotel may seem a little obsolete in the early stages but its 36 rooms were renovated in 2012 and offer all the standard comforts in a pleasant style. Other major assets: Continental breakfast is included and parking is free.

We loved this place! Great rooms for an affordable price. Excellent service. And located in the heart of Westwood within walking distance of UCLA. Would definitely stay here again!

Hotels, more than any other service, really depend on the price. Royal Palace Westwood is a small quiet Hotel that was really worth the price given the expensive Westwood location.

We were there for early morning medical appointments at UCLA. Upon check in, they started impressing us with their policies and service. They clearly want to make folks feel good about RP and feel comfortable in returning when future medical visits are required. Yes, there is a shuttle to UCLA; the phone number to request a shuttle is posted by the front door. Yes, we can leave our car parked there after checkout so long as we leave our key if we're blocking somebody else. They recommend we leave our luggage inside instead of in the car; it's a good neighborhood but better safe than sorry. The free breakfast was continental, but better than most continental breakfasts with fresh fruit, waffles (or pancakes? I was rushed and skipped them), yogurt, orange juice, plus all the usual stuff.. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean. My wife is allergic to all kinds of cleaning supplies, but was not bothered in the least. We were mildly concerned about older reports of mold because I'm highly allergic. I had fewer problems with allergies there than at home, so I consider the reports to have been corrected.

Royal Palace isn't a resort style hotel. Those hotels can run $500 a night or more in West LA. If you want to visit Los Angeles for the many things visitors like, Westwood, UCLA, shopping, beaches, etc. Royal Palace is a clean affordable home base that doesn't try to keep you on site but does try to accommodate you.

For $230 a night I would expect a cleaner and more put together hotel. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Housekeeping was also kind and provided timely turnover service. Parking is available, but people regularly double park and don’t leave keys up front like they should so I had to wait at 3am for them someone to move their vehicle. Bed was comfortable.

However, the building is showing serious signs of wear. My door had a gap so large there was light pouring in from the hall. MnM candy on the floor, which was clearly old and dirty carpet. Someone had clearly smoked many cigarettes on the balcony and the room smelled like smoke/must. The ceiling in the bathroom is so wet it looks like it may cave in at any time. Only two plugs in the room worked and everything looked dirty (switch plates, walls, etc). There were also at least 10 small fruit flies/bugs in the room over the three days I was there and I’m not sure how they got in. This place needs work. If you’re staying here for surgery, consider the hotel next door for something more updated. I’d be worried about healing here or even getting sick from staying here. Really needs work.

Edit: Received a prompt and detailed reply from management upon posting. I really appreciate their attention to detail in my reply and am hopeful they will get the remodel they need soon. Added an additional star (2* to 3*) because of this reply.
