The decoration, which was blocked in the 1980 s, certainly leaves to be desired but the place is simply magical, just at the foot of the ocean. Breakfast, free, is enough to allow you to go hiking for 3:30 a. m. around the island without feeling a little hollow.

This was the perfect getaway for our engagement trip! The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a beautiful view and some fun downtown. Cool hot tub, great seated balconies, comfortable furniture, clean bathrooms. The walk to and from town was easy, yet it feels like you are staying up and away from the crowds.

I wanted to make a reservation for a certain day but made a mistake when choosing the date. I tried contacting them after less than 10 mins I booked it but they said they couldn't help me because the manager is not available. Long story short they took my $287. They said it was non-refundable. They took my money and ignore my request for refund or change the date. How desperate can you be?

Where to begin... great location but the facility itself is severely outdated.
1. Cable didn't work on either of the 2 days we were there.
2. Heating system didn't work. Went to front desk and was given a space heater (that didn't work either).
3. Floors weren't clean.
Just overall creepy.

Anyway, I contacted the hotel to cancel the reservation 1-2days prior. They said it can only be done through the booking company. Went through my friend's email and found what came up as the booking company. Contacted them to cancel and they said only the hotel admin can do that. So a back and forth game. Great... We actually wanted to go but that weekend just wasn't the right time. Since neither side was really helping... The hotel said they will have to charge the full amount because I guess we didn't notify them in time. We did our best to make it. Managed to get the last ferry to Catalina.
On our way there an email came in from the hotel said best they can do is only charge us for the 1 night and cancel the 2nd night. We got to the hotel late at night, checked into the room. Oddly for 2 adults and 1 child they gave us a room with 1 bed and a tiny couch. It was too late to complain, no one in the office at this time.
We were hungry. Found a place only a few minutes away that was actually open. We ordered some burgers and stuff as takeout. Just a few hours after eating we all got seriously sick. I was on the toilet feeling like Niagara falls coming out of me. My bestie was sick. The worst was my 8yr old god daughter was projectile vomiting for freaking HOURS.
None of us had any sleep. We had to pay for a late check out of the hotel. I had to find the pharmacy and get stuff to help her make the trip back home. The room just smelled of sickness and vomit. The windows wouldn't really open. A window by the door could open but then anyone walking by could hear us and we would hear them. There was another window but it was pretty heavy and I just didn't have anything to keep it open. So the room just smelled bad.
Anyway, I managed to book a ferry back to Long Beach. We checked out the room. My little god daughter threw up all along the way to the ferry. Luckily, she finally stabilized before we had to take the ferry. She was so broken she said she never wanted to come back to Catalina.
We didn't even get to see or do anything this trip. We just burned a ton of money. Round trip on the ferry alone for the 3 of us cost about $250. Then the hotel, medicine, parking, gas, time....
All could of been avoided if we were able to just cancel the trip. Maybe even allowed to reschedule would have been great. Hands down the worst experience I've had in a long time.
