Nestled on the edge of Newport back bay, this hotel offers an alternative to beach resorts. The 254 rooms are equipped with a balcony, shower and bathtub. We also enjoy the semi-covered swimming pool and the outdoor terrace with sun loungers. Even if it is not located on the seafront, this hotel has the merit of being central, that you want to go to Fashion Island to shop or to Balboa to eat a frozen banana. The location is ideal for watching birds from the nearby bay.

Awful customer service - at check-in, I was not greeted which I'm OK with, but still shouldn't happen. What really disappointed me was that it was purely transactional - card, ID etc. Once he had all of that he just gave me the key. No direction to elevators, this is your floor, where you can find hotel amenities etc. I've never stayed at this spot and while I've had a overall good experience with Marriott, this was awful and unacceptable!
Additionally this morning I came down to the lobby to find coffee. Same deal - front desk attendant provided zero greeting even though I was the only one in the lobby at 5:45a - when I finally got his attention by asking if he could assist - he simply responded that "coffee will be ready at 6, maybe a little after".
IMO customer service is just as, if not more important than amenities or room comfort. For a hotel that costs $300-$400/night with added costs like parking and internet, this is very disappointing. I understand parking fees, but internet - this a Spirit Airlines move which is likely not the category where you'd want the Marriott brand categorization grouping.

Shirley is AMAZING! She was able to accommodate me moving to a quieter room extremely quickly, and even saved me from losing a blazer! She is the best!

Newport Beach Marriott Bayview
We extended our stay in the Newport Beach/ Coast area by moving here from the Marriott Newport Coast Villas.
This was a perfect extension to our vacation.
Comfortable suite, bedroom with a pair of doors separating it from the living room / office area.
Nice bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub.
Coffee/ Tea area and mini fridge.
The resort has a bar , restaurant and coffee area and there is comfortable inside seating or outside seating with a great view.
This location also sports several meeting rooms and Board Room size meeting rooms.
There is a small market - drinks but the shelves were a bit bare.
The staff was very helpful and our feather free room and Titanium level upgrade was accomplished.
Over all a 5 stars

nice everything EXEPT THEY CHARGED MY FAMILY 1200 DOLLARS WHEN THEY SAID "oh we only charged you 40 dollars for the parking"
Upon checkin the gentleman was kind but a bit frazzled. It took him a while to login and check me in and he had no other help. All in all easy to checkin once we finished up. I saw a lot of Bayview rooms so was hoping for a platinum elite upgrade but alas, I did not get it.
Also, this hotel has no lounge. I knew that going in. The breakfast option was a cold breakfast or I could upgrade for $12, so I opted for points. Also $7 life water in the room but no water for elites.
Parking was super easy but expensive, $39 a day. Also the rooms could use some updating. I love that they are all suites and they are in decent shape. Bed was super comfy and room was quiet. Housekeeping was excellent and on top of everything.
Last point, I booked this hotel for the hottub and it was closed. Disappointing but I get that it happens.
Pros: ideal location, big rooms, quiet, good housekeeping.
Cons: no personal touch, out of date rooms, pricey parking, broken amenities, no lounge, no upgrades (despite night availability).
I would recommend the Costa Mesa Marriott that is also all suites. Nicer property.
